Most Asked Questions & Answers about Furniture Care
|
1. I have chairs with a cane seat that have gotten dirty, how do I clean them?
If it is something more than dust, use something like a Murphy's Oil Soap to lightly clean the cane.
Then use lemon oil or something similar sparingly several times a year.
2. Our church pews have gum on the underside of the seats. Can it be removed?
In many cases, a putty knife or a paint scrapper can be used to remove the gum. Call me!
3. I am going to move to a nearby town. I don't want my furniture to get scratched. What do I do?
You will want to cover your furniture with good furniture pads, blankets, or big pieces of cardboard.
Whatever you use, should be fastened down along with the furniture itself so nothing moves. If the
furniture is padded down but still can move around, you can still get the furniture damaged.
4. Is there anything I can do about a sagging cane seat?
Depending upon how your cane is finished, you may be able to apply warm water by using rags on the
underside of the caning. As it dries the caning should shrink and tightened. I would suggest you call me
before starting this process.
5. I have tried to stain my furniture a darker color, but it doesn't work. What do I do?
You may be using the wrong stain or you may have to use a colored varnish or other colored protective
finish
6. What upkeep needs to be done on my dining room table?
When dirty with food or liquid after use, clean with a damp rag. Then towel dry, including the seams
between the table top and leaves. This procedure is very important because most new tables have
recycled wood as a base. If these areas are not kept dry, including excess polishes and sprays, this wood
swells up like a dry sponge leaving ripples across the top of your table. Finally, use lemon oil or spray
wax. This gives a little bit of protection before its next use. If all else fails call me!
